Many don’t know this but coming out of high school, I applied to Carleton’s Architecture program which is why I took (re: struggled through) physics, calculus, and discrete geometry. When the admissions team mentioned I would need a 10-piece art portfolio, only then did I realize I was in the deep end of a very creative pool. Ironically enough, most architectural design is now done digitally in programs like AutoCAD. But everything happens for a reason!
I ended up attending the University of Ottawa where I graduated with honours (B.S.Sc with a Minor in Business) and promptly made my mother SUPER PROUD by shelving the degree to join the hospitality sector as a bartender, mixologist, and finally beverage director. That industry taught me how to read people quickly, stay calm when things get hectic, and make sure everyone feels looked after. It also allowed me to achieve two of my bigger goals: to travel the world (22 countries and counting) and to purchase a home then a cottage.
Today, as a licensed Realtor for over five years, I’ve helped clients buy and sell throughout Ottawa and the Valley, and I’ve passed $10 million in transactions. My business degree gave me the analytical side: numbers, market data, and clear thinking. Hospitality gave me the service side: attention to detail, anticipating needs, and making a stressful process feel easy.
